Success of the faculty

The presence of 3 PhD doctors, 6 candidates of sciences, 18 masters of Arts and a master of pedagogy and psychology, including 3 Honorable workers of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a winner of the title “Best teacher of the University of RK” indicates good scientific potential of the staff of the faculty of foreign languages. The faculty works on the organization and management of educational process, the use of educational technology in open sessions, conducting online seminars of international level, as well as monitoring attendance and ensuring the educational process in the departments.

Most of the teachers have passed courses of improving the qualification abroad (Kushkarova G.K., Trusheva A.T., Suleimenova Z. E., Urazova A. A., Usenova S.G., Zhumakhanova A.A., Aimukatova A.T., Burybayeva R.A., Taipakova A.R. and etc.), which undoubtedly contributed to increasing the motivation to learn and proficiency in a foreign language. Traditionally teachers use such types of learning as E-Learning, learning via Skype, video conferencing. Teachers of the faculty have passed an international exam on IELTS, TOEFL, SELTA, TKT – Teaching Knowledge Test, conducted by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

Teachers participate in various teaching seminars and webinars of the faculty and the University and receive different certificates regularly.

In addition, teachers are trained in the leading universities of the world. Teachers undergo courses of the advanced training in national training center “Orleu”.

Nurdan Nazdanov was nominated in the nomination “Cultural Reading” for the regional poetry competition among university students (April 17, 2018). Nurlan Nazdanov is the winner of the debate tournament among Serpin students (2017). According to the results of the debate tournament among the teams of regional youth, organized by the Center for the Study of Democracy through the Department of Innovative Technologies of the Aktobe region Nurlan Nazdanov is the winner of the 1st place (2017), got the letter of thanks for acknowledgments in the logical systematic criticism of the traditional interdepartmental rector’s cup on the debate for the promotion of the article by N.Nazarbayev “Orientation – Spiritual Revival” (Letter of thanks, Aktobe, 2017). He participated in a training seminar in the framework of the IV Republican Debate Tournament, dedicated to the Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and got a certificate of practical training (Certificate, Uralsk, 2017). He also was awarded for outstanding work and special activity at the IV Republican debate tournament dedicated to the Day of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Letter of thanks, Uralsk, 2017).

Academic mobility

The faculty carries out at the University international workshops to enhance linguistic, methodological and linguistic training, annual seminars of the British Council and publishers Maсmillan, Goethe Institute and DAAD.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, under the program of external academic mobility, students of the 2-3 courses of the specialty “Translation studies” Bakyt Nurly, Zhumiev Nursultan, Konyspayev Kairat, Kudaibergenova Zulfiya were educated in Urumqi, China.

In the second half of the 2017-2018 academic year, Bazarbayeva Aigerim, the 2nd year student, gained knowledge at the Eurasian Humanities Institute (Astana) under the program of internal academic mobility.

In addition, students of Osh State University (Kyrgyz Republic) – Paizova Takhmina, Myrzabekova Samara, Yuldasheva Khusniyat and Dosmatova Kamila studied at our university under the program of academic mobility.

According to the program of academic mobility in the 2017-2018 academic year, 9 students (Tolegen Gaukhar, Umbetova Aizhan, Sanatova Zhibek, Shangereeva Saule, Kashkenov Temirlan, Aiymbetova Gulnaz, Zhumagaliyeva Zhansaya, Tleubergenova Perizat, Yerlik Botakoz) studied in the Xinjiang university. Hamitova Moldir, Karamanova Gulmira, Moldabaeva Ayazhan studied at the Financial University in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The 2nd year student Gabdualieva Aigerim studied at the University of Sakaria (Republic of Turkey) and received a free scholarship (a grant from the University of Sakaria) for the next academic year. Tynybekova Dilyara, the 3rd year student, studied at the University of Vytautas Magnus in Lithuania (Kaunas), at the Faculty of International Relations and Development.

The following students of the specialty “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” in the 2017-2018 academic year, under the program of academic mobility, studied in China at Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics: Tomiris Hayrosh, Onoprienko Olivia, Bakhtiyar Otegen. The 3rd year students Asylov Nursultan, Tanzharikova Aidana studied at the Financial University in Bydgoszcz, Poland. As part of the internal academic mobility program, Zhaken Nurken, Anar Mukasheva, Seitova Indira studied at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University in Almaty. The faculty team regularly takes part in the Republican subject and international Olympiads and competitions and the members of it are prize winners: Zhakanova Gulzira was awarded a diploma for active participation in the international Olympiad English language in 2016. On October 28, 2017 in K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional State University in the corps of the Faculty of History in the framework of the message of the President “Ushinshi Rukhani Zangyru” was held the regional debate tournament “Jer – su, Attary – Eldіktіn Aynasy”.

The goal of the tournament is to explain to the public the importance of switching to the Latin language and introduce little-known personalities to the public, increase the value of historical objects, give modern objects forgotten names and the names of distinguished citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Students of 1 and 2 courses of specialty “5B011900 – Foreign Language: two foreign languages” of the Faculty of Foreign Languages proved themselves to be qualified students and patriots of their homeland. Students of the 2nd course Umіrzak Bagdad, Bolatbek Nesibeli took 2nd place, students of the 1st course Toleubayeva Gulmira, Nazdanov Nurlan took 1st place. Also, the student of the specialty “5B011900 – Foreign Language: two foreign languages” Toleubaeva Gulmira was awarded the title of “Best Speaker”, and a 2nd-year student Zhaken Nurken was named the “Best Judge”.

At the faculty of foreign languages, on the specialty “5В011900 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”, students are trained in sports and represent the university in city, regional and international competitions. We can mention the 3rd year student Traize Diana, who is engaged in professional martial arts Wushu and takes part in various competitions and takes prizes.

Since 2008 Diana annually becomes the absolute champion of the Republic of Kazakhstan in wushu among juniors and adults.

Diana participated in the 9th Asian Junior Wushu Championship, which was held in South Korea, Gumi, from September 14 to 21, 2017, where she won two 3 prizes.

Also, she took part in the Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan on wushu among adults, which was held from 4 to 10 September 2017 in Karaganda, where she won two 1 prizes.

Diana was awarded the title of absolute champion of the Republic of Kazakhstan in wushu among adults.

Students of the specialty foreign language: two foreign languages Shonmurinov Tamerlane, Asylov Nursultan took part in the subject Olympiad on the basis of Kazumoimya im. Abylai Khan, Almaty 2018, where they took 2-3 prizes.

Koptileu Akbota Asylbekkyzy – “Elbasy Medal” is the only national-level program that is aimed at the comprehensive development of youth. The program consists of 7 main areas: sports, talents and skills, reading books, national heritage, volunteering, expeditions and hiking, work practice. The program is intended for young people aged 14 to 29 years. 2022.

By participating in it, young people learn to manage their time, set goals and systematically achieve them, lead a healthy lifestyle and constantly develop themselves.

In the 2020-2021 academic year, a total of 18 students of EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages studied in Poland for international mobility.

Dr. Stephen Bari was invited as a lecturer for undergraduates and students of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th courses of the specialty EP 7M01607/6B01706 – “Foreign languages: two foreign languages” on the topic “Methods of scientific research and academic writing in teaching and learning a second foreign language”. The course consisted of 72-hour lectures and seminars. The course covered the following topics: theoretical foundations and ethical issues of academic research, literature review, qualitative, quantitative, experimental, descriptive research, data collection procedure, their analysis and implementation stages. The course began on October 21 and ended on November 12, 2022.

SPELLING BEE

There are two speaking clubs at the Department of English and German Languages:

English-speaking club and Zhubanov Talk. For 3 years,students of the philological faculty attend clubs in their free time after lunch. American teachers have been teaching in the English-speaking club of Zhubanov University.

In 2020, American teacher Jessica Sanders hold additional lessons. She was a participant of the Fullbright Teacher’s Assistant program.

In 2021, American TESOL teacher Melisandra Leonardos hold additional lessons. She was a participant of the Virtual English Fellow program.

In 2022, American TESOL teacher Grace Davis also was a participant of the Virtual English Fellow program.

Students discuss various topics, celebrate holidays, hold competitions and practice English language.

ZHUBANOV TALK

There will be a more positive change if there are more morally motivated educators. I emphasize the importance of teachers since they can affect not only students but also parents. Teachers may encourage and inspire their students, as well as transform them for the better by teaching. As a result, the pupils will develop a moral attitude and can handle obstacles in their path. Indeed, their teachers bring up all presidents, lawyers, doctors, and other professionals in various disciplines. The teacher could positively impact challenges such as the fight against racism, equity and discrimination among students, bullying in schools, and support for pursuing students’ success. Thus, in my capacity as a teacher and a change agent, I made the decision to form the Zhubanov Talk club, a place for students to voice their ideas and concerns. In this club, I can stimulate and instruct the students to present their points of view, share their opinions, and make a call to action. It is a setting where ambitious students can develop their communication and public speaking abilities.

The best student of the 4th year of the Faculty of Philology EP 6B01706 – “Foreign language: two foreign languages” Meruert Utembet took part in the International Student Festival Trondheim (09.02.23-19.02.23) in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. The festival was attended by more than 100 nationalities, 450 students from all over the world from Austria, Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, Costa Rica, India, Mexico, Chile, Ghana and other countries. During the festival, the students were divided by volunteers into “host families”, she settled on a local Norwegian family. M. Utembet is a participant of the workshop “freedom of speech”. The theme of the festival is “Polarization”, where students shared polarizing factors, aspects and problems, and also discussed how it will affect society. M. Utembet: “I have made many student friends since the festival and I have learned a lot about other countries. I am a girl from the village, I travel abroad for the first time, I discover a lot of things, for which I thank the administration of Zhubanov University, heads of philological faculties, heads and teachers of the Department of English and German,” she said at the meeting.

In the framework of Science Week, students actively participate in English language competitions; students also demonstrate academic potential in Student Scientific Practical Conferences, such as: “World of Language and Intercultural Communication”, “Youth and Science: reality and future”, “Youth and science: the industrial-innovative development of the country”, “Actual problems of Germanic Philology, translation studies and methods of foreign languages teaching” and receive prizes and certificates for participation.

An integral part of the activities of department is international cooperation. International cooperation is expressed primarily in the organization of seminars, both at the department and in the international educational centers such as the British Council for international education, etc. Thus there is a priority of the department for the professional development of teachers contributing to the growth of pedagogical skills, improving the quality of teaching. Every year teachers of the department receive international certificates. The department carries out international seminars on university level to enhance linguistic, methodological and linguistic training, annual seminars of the British Council and publishing house Maсmillan.

Since July 1, 2022, the department has been implementing the research project AH/T008075/1 – “Gender, language and social inequalities in textbooks on the history of Kazakhstan”. The project is funded by the PEERNetwork community and UlsterUniversity (Northern Ireland, UK). The scientific supervisor is Bekzhanova Zhazira Yerbulatovna, PhD, research teacher, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation. The research is aimed at identifying possible gender and social justice and inclusiveness in textbooks on the history of Kazakhstan for secondary schools.

From March 1 to April 1, 2022, researcher, associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation, PhD, Zhazira Yerbulatovna Abzhanova gave a course of lectures on the discipline “Discursology” as a guest lecturer at Tokat Gaziosmanpasha University (Turkey), and also held a workshop for teachers and teachers of the Tokat region. As a result of the visit, it was decided to develop a joint educational trajectory on the basis of the Department of IF and PD of Zhubanov University.

Since September 1, 2022, the Department of IF and PD has launched a joint educational trajectory with Tokat Gaziosmanpasha University (Turkey) on specially-oriented methods of teaching English. Within the framework of this trajectory, for undergraduate students of the 1st year of the OP “English and Computer Science”, the course “Linguistics” is taught by an assistant professor, head of the Department of English Language Teaching at Tokat University, Dr. Ugur Ada.

In the 2022-2023 academic year, teachers of the Department of “Foreign Philology and Translation” Kushchanova A. N. and Zhetesova Zh. A. entered the doctoral program in the specialty 8d02304-Philology on the basis of a state grant.

Teachers of graduating departments contribute to the implementation of the Strategic Development Plan of the University. For example, to ensure financial and economic sustainability and determine effective ways to invest the financial resources of the university, teachers participate in competitions for grant funding. Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Affairs PhD, Associate Professor Kerimbayeva B.T., Senior Lecturer Sapargalieva D.D. won a grant project of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2022-2024 under the title “The network communicative culture of the future teacher is the key to forming the digital literacy of teenagers”. PhD Bekzhanova Zh.E. is engaged in research in the international project PEER Network “Gender, language and social inequalities in Kazakhstani textbooks” (November 2021-November 2022, UK, South Africa).

The research project of Zhazira Bekzhanova, PhD, received funding from Ulster University of Great Britain. The research project “Gender, language and social inequalities in textbooks on the history of Kazakhstan” is implemented with the support of the Association of Political Economy of Education Research (PEER) Network https://www.instagram.com/p/CfJY_V-I5LP/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY. PhD, Associate Professor Kerimbayeva B.T. is currently doing an internship under the “Bolashak” program at the University of Washington (The George Washington University) in the USA.

Various events are organized at the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation. Students of the OP participate in subject Republican Olympiads and win prizes. In the Republican subject Olympiad in English among universities in 2018, a student of the EP Translation Studies took the 3rd place, in 2019 1 student took the 3rd place in translation. A 4th year student Bakytzhan Saltanat of EP 5B020100-Foreign philology took the 3rd place in the republican subject Olympiad in English, which was held at the Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International relations and languages.

In 2018, within the framework of the week of science, a 1st year student of the EP 5B021000-Foreign Philology Nasumov Nurzhan took the 2nd place in the project “Gylym Kainary”, also students of 1-2 courses of EP 5B021000-Foreign Philology participated in the project “Project Day and Kemel Kasipker” and received certificates with a referral to a summer camp (Mirzaly Kamshat, Kulmanova Saule, Nasumov Nurzhan, Ziyadinov Zhandaulet).

Students actively participate in republican, international conferences and publish articles. Students of 1-3 courses of Foreign Philology published their scientific articles at international conferences abroad. They received certificates for participation. At the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Actual Issues of Teaching a Foreign Language in Higher Education”, held on May 18, 2018 in Cheboksary, Russia, 34 articles were published. In addition an international scientific and practical online conference “Multilingualism in the modern world” was held in the faculty, where students of the 4^th course took part in it. A 4-year student M. Arkpaeva took the 3rd place at the Republican Student Olympiad held at the Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages.

Students of 1-4 courses of Foreign Philology took part in the Start-up project with business and social projects. 4 students passed the intra-faculty stage. Aruzhan Segizbayeva, Ayazhan Nagamadinova, Laura Sabyr, Myrzaly Kamshat “Grocery Delivery Site”; Ziyadinov Zhandaulet, Nasumov Nurzhan “Installing a Barcode (QR-code) on Famous Kazakh Intellectuals and Monuments”; Aigerim Gabdualiyeva “Opening the State Journalistic Lyceum and Center”; Artykbay Tansholpan, Buzhigitova Altynshash, Kenzhalina Rosa “MobileLibrary” (developing an application for a mobile phone) defended their projects at the faculty and received a referral to the intra-university stage.

In the 2017-2018 academic year, a 4th year student of Foreign Philology Uzakbay Aknur took the 3rd place in the competition of research projects (Ministry of Education and Science of RK, 2018, April, scientific supervisor master, senior lecturer Burankulova E.T., topic – “Use of idioms found in mass media”).

In 2019, a 2-year student of Foreign Philology Aitbayeva Arina took part in the republican conference “Youth for the Future of Kazakhstan”, organized by the National Innovation Research Center “Bilim Civilizeti” and was awarded the badge “Best Student 2019” and a letter of thanks “Zhas Kyran”, she also entered the republican book collection of talented youth.

In the 1st half of the 2022-2023 academic year, the implementation of academic mobility is planned in the following areas: under the international academic mobility program, it is planned to study at Sakaria University under the Mevlana program (Turkey) for the following students:

Kazbekova Bereke, EP 6B02303-Foreign philology;
Bulekova Aruzhan, EP 6B02303-Foreign philology;
Tanbayeva Aidana, EP 6B02303-Foreign philology.

According to the national academic mobility program, it is planned to study at the following universities (9 students): the Abay Kazakh National Pedagogical University, the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Gumilyov L.N. Eurasian National University, Kazakh National Women’s Pedagogical University, the Ablai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages, the Korkyt-ata Kyzylorda State University, the Sh. Ualikhanov Kokshetau State University, the Buketov E.A. Karaganda University, KIMEP, SDU.

As part of the Month of Science, held at the ARU named after K. Zhubanov, on April 20, 2023, in order to activate, stimulate and improve the quality of students’ research work, form an in-depth interest in research activities among students and improve conditions for their creative and intellectual development, identifying the best students scientific club and supporting research students, associate professors of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Kushkarova G.K., Yerzhanova G.A. held the contest “The Best Students scientific Club” and ” The Best Student-Researcher “. The competition was attended by students of 1-4 years of EP 6B02302 – Translation studies, 6B02303-Foreign Philology, 6B 01707 – English and Informatics.

Students of the 2-4 courses of the Faculty of Philology EP 6B01707-English and Computer Science, 6B02302-Translation, 6B02303-Foreign Philology Abutali Maulen, Amantayeva Asem, Mukhambetalina Arailym, Zhubatyrova Aruzhan, Ilyas Asem participated in the Republican Subject Olympiad held on April 20-21, 2023 at the Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages. The teaching staff of the department actively participates in the social life of the university, achieving significant success in the organization of the educational process and the development of the university’s research activities.

Teachers of the department periodically take professionally advanced training courses. Every year teachers of the department receive certificates of international standard. Most of the teachers of the department passed the international TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) exam, developed by the Cambridge University Examination Board for English language teachers.

Teachers of the department Zhumagul D.K., Masalimova A.S., Nakesheva S.T., Baizhanova A.A., Berstenova A.B., Makhsutova A.D. successfully passed the international test and got certificates of the international standard TOEFL ITP Test (2021)

Senior teachers of the department Umirzakova S.E. (Berlin, 2011) and Nakesheva S.T. (München, 2010) participated in competitions for scholarships and took advanced training courses in Germany within the Goethe-Institut.

Senior teachers of the department Salimgerei Z.M. and Sagieva A.T. completed a foreign internship at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain, 2015).

The teachers of the department Baizhanova A.A., Shaкeeva A.S. and Turmagambetova G.N. completed a foreign internship at the Higher Technical University of Porto (Portugal, 2017).

Most of the teachers have completed professionally advanced training courses at the JSC “National Center for Advanced Training “Orleu”.

Also, teachers of the department annually take professionally advanced training courses at the university and receive certificates.

Participation and achievements of students in the subject Olympiads and competitions.

Senior teacher Sagieva A.T. prepared students of the specialty “Design” of the professional and creative faculty for the annual International Olympiad in Foreign Languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Italian) among students of non-linguistic specialties, dedicated to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 25th anniversary of the foundation of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The1st year student Kurakbaeva Malika took 1st place in English and was awarded by a Diploma of the 1st degree. Student Altaev Altair was among the top 50 students. Senior teacher Sagieva A.T. was awarded by the letter of thanks.

First- year students of the academic program “Music Education” Zhumabaev Nurbol and Umirzakova Madina participated in the International Scientific project “Covid & Knowledge: the Way Forward” (Nis, Serbia – November 30, 2020), where they took 1st and 2nd places on the topic “Expressive interaction with music” and “The world music awards”. The scientific supervisor of the students was senior teacher Sagieva A.T.

First and third – year students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences participated in the international quiz, the English language Olympiad, “Amazing English”, “English Communication”, “English Learning”, “Traveling”, where they took honorary 1,2 places and were awarded by diplomas. Students studying in non-linguistic specialties of our university successfully pass the generally recognized international tests IELTS, TOEFL, etc., demonstrating foreign language skills at a high level.

Student of senior teacher Shakeeva A.S. of Economics and Law Faculty, specialty “Jurisprudence” Aruzhan Kuzhanova worked hard and purposefully studying English and achieved the desired result by passing the international IELTS exam. (4.5 b)
