Educational and scientific activities of the department

The department trains specialists in the specialty “6B01706 — Foreign language: two foreign languages”. The Bachelor’s degree program is based on a modular education system.

In recent years, almost all teachers of the department have completed advanced training courses. Of these, 8 teachers took advanced training courses at the Republican Institute of Advanced Training of AFPA “Orleu” and 6 teachers abroad (Great Britain, Portugal). Senior teachers of the Department of English and German Mursalieva A. K., Nurmanova Sh. K., Trusheva A.T., Orazova A.A., Amirova A.A., Master’s teacher Usenova S.G., completed a refresher course at the University of Newcastle, England in 2014.

For merits in the educational field, teaching staff participating in the implementation of EP 6B01706, 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages were awarded the following honorary titles, diplomas, diplomas and badges:

  • Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Suleimenova Z.E., Associate Professor of the Department of English and German, 2006);
  • The best teacher of the university in 2012 (Koptleuova K.B., associate professor of the Department of English and German, 2012);

During the reporting period, the results of scientific research of the teaching staff of the Department of English and German Languages were introduced into the educational process:

  • “English Nobility: linguocognitive, linguoculturological, semantic aspects” by EP 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages (Kuzembayeva G.A.);
  • electronic textbook “English for Specific Purposes” 2020 by EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages (Koptleuova K.B.);
  • “Semantics and pragmatics of verbs with the meaning of “rejoice” according to EP 7M01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages (Suleimenova Z.E.);
  • educational and methodical manual “Analysis of literary texts” 2021, intended for use in classes in the disciplines “Stylistics of the English language”, “Language for special purposes”, “Critical reading” according to EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages (Trusheva A.T.);
  • collection of materials for the SRS on discipline “Country studies” according to EP 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages (Trusheva A.T.).

As well as a lecturer at the department, Aekenova R.M. received a master’s degree in Education, and in particular “Educational Policy and Management” (M.Ed in Educational Leadership & Policy) at the University of Toronto, Canada (2020-2022).

JOINT PROJECTS AND GRANTS OF THE US EMBASSY AND THE ARU NAMED AFTER K. ZHUBANOV

Fullbright Teacher’s Assistant Program – January 2020 Faculty of Philology, Department of English and German – Jessica Sanders

Pedagogical University Development Program. 2020-2022 Teachers of the Faculty of Philology participated in a joint project with the U.S. Embassy and the Department of Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which consisted of three stages. In the first stage, 24 teachers from September 14 to October 31, 2020 held virtual seminars on professional development and developed Google sites for their academic disciplines. All teachers were given certificates. At the second stage, 19 teachers of the Faculty of Philology from January 18 to April 9, 2021. participated in the development of a modern curriculum for teaching English and teaching methods. During this project, the teachers worked with the American teacher Graham Derry online, also exchanged new ideas and shared experiences.  He highly appreciated the professionalism of the teachers of the Faculty of Philology.

Virtual English Language Fellow Program 2021 Melisandra Leonardos. Melisandra Leonardos worked at the Department of English and German Languages from January 25, 2021 to May 2021 under the Virtual Fellow program US Embassy. During the spring semester, Melisandra actively worked with students and teachers. In particular, she conducted practical classes together with Usenova Saule Galymgereevna in group 305 and with Orazova Akmaral Abdullayevna in group 302. Classes were held online in the evenings. The students gladly joined the classes and completed all the tasks. Also, together with Melisandra Leonardos and the teacher of the department, Zarina Galievna Sideshova, meetings of the English-speaking club with students of 1-2 courses were held every Thursday. During this program, Melisandra conducted methodological seminars for faculty teachers.

Virtual English Language Fellow Program Grace Davis 2022.  In 2022, Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov once again strengthened cooperation with the US Embassy in Kazakhstan through participation in competitions of US grant programs for the development of joint pedagogical activities at the university. This year, the Department of English and German Languages of the Faculty of Philology has already won the Embassy grant for the second time under the Virtual English Language Fellow Program. On January 27, 2022, an online meeting of representatives of the two sides was held. The online meeting was headed by: Dean of the Faculty of Philology Shokym Gulzhan Tynyshtykbaevna, Head of the Department of English and German Languages Tastanbayeva Dina Kasenovna and teachers of the Department Bekzhanova Zhazira Yerbulatovna, Usenova Saule Galymgereevna and Sideshova Zarina Galievna. Since February 7, at the Department of English and German, the American teacher Grace Davis, according to the Virtual English Language Fellow program, conducted classes for students of the specialty 6B01706 “Foreign Language: two foreign languages”, meetings with the English-speaking club, and was also the speaker of a series of methodological seminars with university teachers and school teachers.

IVLP 2022. Zarina Sideshova was nominated for the International Visitor Leadership Program, which consists of an online and offline format. In October 2021, Zarina actively participated in joint seminars with teachers from 15 countries.

English Language Fellow Program 2022-2023. The Department of English and German Languages of the Faculty of Philology has become the owner of the Embassy grant for the third time under the English Language Fellow Program. In September 2022, an American teacher will work offline at the Faculty of Philology.

Also, in 2019, teachers Bayadilova Ainur and Sideshova Zarina were participants of the Central Asian Conference of English Teachers CATEC 2019 in Almaty at the invitation of the US Embassy.

In 2022, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of English and German Languages Suleimenova Zamzagul Yesenovna also became a participant in American programs, namely the OPEN Program Summer 2022, which will be held in the summer in an online format.

Teacher of the Department of English and German Languages of the Faculty of Philology Zhumakhanova A. Zh. On 13.12.21, took part in the course at the webinar on the definition of credit in Moscow “Borrowings in scientific publications. Culture of citation” and received a certificate. She also took part in the courses on 02.12.2021. “Teacher–Student interaction in the Anti-Plagiarism system. University”, 09.12.2021″ Dissertations: we evaluate the originality and prepare an expert opinion. Online master class”, 11/30/2021 “The problem of self-citation in scientific papers: the possibilities of the “Anti-Plagiarism” system, 11/30/2021 “The Republic of Kazakhstan for academic integrity: experience and prospects. Round table online” and received a certificate. And on 09/27/2021, 11/22/2021, at a seminar at the Nazarbayev University organization, she received a certificate on the topic “Training seminar “External Expert NAAR” and “Career and employment”.

In addition, until November 18-26, 2021, 11.10.21-18.10.21-10.12.21 G. Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, lecturer of the Department of English and German Languages Suleimenova Z. E. received a certificate on the topic “Mentoring in STEM”, “English for Career Development”, “English Language teaching methodology, content and curriculum development conducted by U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist Graham Derry”.

Teacher of the Department of English and German languages Goncharenko O. On 21.06.21-02.07.21, during the organization of the training center “Erudite Academy”, she received a certificate on the topic “Pedagogical skills and modern teaching technologies”.

Teachers of the Department of English and German Languages of the Faculty of Philology Sideshova Z. G., Zhumagul D. K., Bekzhanova Zh. E on 22.11.21-15.12.21 were awarded a certificate of Nazarbayev University on the topic “Leadership in education”. In this regard, at the organization of Nazarbayev University on 04.10.21-11.22.21, the teacher of the Department of English and German languages Sideshova Z. G received a certificate on the topic “International Visitor Leadership Program”, teachers of the Department of English and German languages Trusheva A. T., Sideshova Z. G., Zhumagul D. K., Bekzhanova Zh. E., Tuleshova A. S. they received certificates on the topic “Research ethics for working with human subjects in the Social sciences”, on 15.11.21-30.11.21, teachers of the Department of English and German Zhumakhanova A. Zh., Goncharenko O.V. received certificates on the topic “Career development of students and interaction with university graduates”.

Also, teachers of the Department of English and German Languages of the Faculty of Philology Trusheva A. T., Orazova A. A. on 14.11.21-20.11.21 at the organization of KazNU named after Al-Farabi received certificates on the topic “From the experience of using effective methods of teaching a foreign language”.

Lecturer of the Department of English and German Languages of the Faculty of Philology Koptleuova K. B., Candidate of Philology, associate Professor in 2018 published a monograph “Trilingualism of Kazakhs in the oil industry” (Aktobe: Zhubanov ARSU 2018).

Also, in 2020, the textbook “English for Oil and Gas”; “Trilingual Kazakh-Russian-English Russian Russian-Kazakh-English, English-Russian-Kazakh dictionary of oil terms”; electronic dictionary “Trilingual dictionary of terms”; scientific and methodological electronic textbook “English for specific Purposes”.

Lecturer of the Department of English and German Languages, Suleimenova Z. E. Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor in 2019 published a monograph “Semantics and pragmatics of verbs with the meaning “rejoice”. And in 2020, the scientific methodology “General Foundation of the Theory and Methodology of Physical Culture and Sports” was conducted. The event was attended by the teacher of the Faculty of Philology Suleimenova Z. E.

Associate Professor of the Department, lecturer of the Department of English and German Languages, Candidate of Philological Sciences Bekzhanova Zh. E. has published a monograph “Youth discourse: essence, functions, format” (Moscow: Flint: Nauka, 2017).

Also, senior lecturer, Master’s degree, lecturer of the Department of English and German Languages Trusheva A. T. released a scientific and methodological textbook “Analysis of Literary texts” in 2021.

Tuleshova A. S. completed a 160-hour online course on the educational program of advanced training of teaching staff in the subject “English language” within the framework of updating the content of secondary education in the Republic of Kazakhstan”, 2021 Center of Pedagogical Excellence, certificate.

The lecturer of the Department of English and German Languages Sideshova Zarina Galievna participated in the international program “International Visitor Leadership Program” – “21st Century ChangeMakers: American Language and Multicultural Diversity.

The first part of the program was held in Washington, USA, where many different events are planned. Training seminars, visits to American universities and schools to exchange experiences with American colleagues, as well as the cultural part of the program overview of historical and cultural places in the city.

Then there were trips to cities such as New York, Minneapolis, Santa Fe, Albuquerque and Boston. In total, 11 English teachers from around the world participated in the program – Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria and Belarus.

This year British County launches a program of continuous professional development for students and teachers of pedagogical universities of Kazakhstan within the framework of the project “English of the future” (Future English), which is implemented on the online platform of the British Council Online Teacher Community (online teachers) within 10 academic weeks from December to March next year.
The project “English of the future” (Future English) is one of the major programmes implemented by the British Council in a number of countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
Online community of teachers “English of the future” (Online Teacher Community “Future English”) is an online platform for English teachers, where forums are held to discuss new ideas, to share experiences and knowledge, reflex practical work and research. Also on the online platform teachers have the opportunity to develop e-portfolio to support professional development, create their small, local online community on geographical location, where the local facilitator organizes discussions and interactions aimed at creating communication with teachers of other countries within the platform.
The program is designed for students of pedagogical specialty in English, which are trained at the latest year of universities and want to improve professional competencies by improving language and pedagogical skills, as well as improve knowledge of approaches in the teaching methodology of English language. For work with students attracted teachers of the Department of English and German languages of the Philological faculty of Tuleshova A. S., Khumarchan A. as facilitators. From November 21 to 2 December of this year, the future faciliters will complete a two-week additional training from the British Council, after which the students will start working. According to the rules of the project on the Department of English and German languages were selected 40 students 3-4 courses. This programme is fully funded by the British Council and is implemented in cooperation with the National Center for advanced training “Orleu”.
