History of the Faculty

Initially, the Faculty of Foreign Languages was established in 1967 at the Faculty of Philology of the Aktobe Pedagogical Institute. The faculty at that time was headed by Betty Vladimirovna Dedikova. In parallel with the opening of the new institute, Betty Vladimirovna began her pedagogical activity as the head of the department. Along with B. V. Dedikova, the first teachers of the faculty were: T. A. Avanesova (Kazan Pedagogical Institute, 1966), L. F. Magleli (Kazakh PI named afterAbaya, 1964), N.F. Vredbetova (Karakalpak Institute of Foreign Languages, 1962), L. I. Lapteva (Kazakh University named after Abaya, 1967), Yu. G. Lutseva (Kazakh University named after Abai, 1964).

In 1967, the Department of “English language” was separated from the Department of Foreign Languages. The first head of the department was Petrova Atara Lazerovna. The issue of improving their scientific and methodological qualifications in the leading universities of that time with the formation of the teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Languages was also on the agenda. In different years the faculty was headed by:  Yakubova K. A., Tishkova D. G., Kononets L. F. (19686-1997), Tsikalova L. N. (1989-1993), Muldasheva S. G. (1993-1996), Zhirnova I. I. (1996-2000), Kushkarova G. K. (2008-2010; 2010-2014), Iskindirova S. K. (2008-2010; 2014-2017), Koptleuova K. B. (2017-2018), Bayadilova-Altybayeva A. B. (2018-2019).

The Faculty trains bachelor’s degree specialists in 3 educational programs:

  • 6B020700-Translation business
  • 6B021000- Foreign Philology (English)
  • 6B01706-Foreign language: two foreign languages

Graduates who have completed the educational program 6B020700 – “Translation business” can work in the following areas:

  • administrative and managerial;
  • education and science;
  • culture and international relations;
  • international relations;
  • mass media;
  • information and analytical activities.

Graduates can carry out their professional activities in the Department of Culture, international organizations, various information and analytical services, embassies and authorities, ministries, tourism, publishing agencies, translation agencies and other organizations and enterprises.

Graduates who have completed the curriculum 6B021000 – “Foreign Philology (English)” can work in the following areas:

A Bachelor of Philology can carry out his professional activity in the field of philological education as a teacher of a foreign language and literature in secondary and vocational educational institutions of the humanities.

Graduates can carry out professional activities in secondary educational institutions – gymnasiums and lyceums, primary and secondary vocational educational institutions, newspapers, magazines, radio and television, print editions, branch scientific organizations, libraries, cultural organizations.

Graduates of the specialty 6B01706 – “Foreign language: two foreign languages” can carry out the following duties:

  • teaching foreign languages in primary, secondary and branch classes. Organization of the educational process in schools with in-depth study of foreign languages (together with the teaching of other subjects in a foreign language) ;
  • conducting extracurricular work in a foreign language;
  • implementation of educational work by means of a foreign language;
  • educational and pedagogical activity in the system of the complete pedagogical process of the school;
  • improvement of pedagogical professional qualifications, development of new information technologies.

Graduates can carry out professional activities in primary, secondary and branch schools, specialized schools, organizations of secondary technical and vocational education.

The faculty trains Master’s degree specialists in the following EP:

  • 6M021000- Foreign philology
  • 7M01706 – Foreign language: two foreign languages

Graduates who have graduated from the specialty 6M021000 – “Foreign Philology” can work in the following areas:

  • scientific and organizational;
  • research and development;
  • scientific and pedagogical;
  • organizational and managerial;
  • production and technological;
  • editorial and publishing house;
  • cultural and organizational;
  • activities in the media, etc.

The objects of professional activity of graduates of the Master’s degree are universities and scientific organizations, cultural institutions, state and non-state institutions, editorial offices and publishing houses. Graduates can carry out professional activities in primary, secondary and branch schools, specialized schools, organizations of secondary technical and vocational education

The faculty trains doctoral specialists in the following EP:

  • 8D02303-Foreign Philology

The structure of the faculty includes 3 departments:

  • Foreign Philology and Translation (Head of the department – PhD, Associate Professor Burankulova E. T.);
  • English and German (Head of the Department – Master, Zhumakhanova A.Zh);
  • Department of World Languages – (head of the department – senior lecturer Baizhanova A.A.)
