The history of the department

Training in EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation, EP 7M02302 – Interpreting and Translation, EP 6B02303 – Foreign Philology, EP 7M02303 – Foreign Philology, 8D02303 – Foreign Philology, EP 6B01707 – English and Informatics is carried out by the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation.

The Department of Foreign Philology and Translation works in the structure of the Philological Faculty of the ARU named after K. Zhubanov. The mission of the department is to form a qualified specialist and a “perfect person” who has absorbed national values.

The training is conducted in the state and Russian languages in full-time and full-time with the use of distance technologies. Duration of training: on the basis of secondary general education – 4 years, on the basis of secondary vocational education – 3 years, on the basis of higher education – 2 years.

In 2019, the Master’s degree program EP 7M02303 – Foreign Philology was opened. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the contingent consisted of 11 undergraduates.

In 2020, a master’s degree in EP 7M02302 – Interpreting and Translation was opened. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the contingent of undergraduates in this EP was 15 undergraduates.

In 2021, the doctoral program EP 8D02303 – Foreign Philology was opened. In the 2022-2023 academic year, the contingent of doctoral students in EP 8D02303 – Foreign Philology was 1 doctoral student.

In the 2022-2023 academic year, the contingent of undergraduates in EP 8D02303 – Foreign Philology is 3 undergraduates, in EP 7M02302 – Interpreting and Translation the contingent of undergraduates is 4 undergraduates.

In 2021, the Bachelor’s degree EP 6B01707 – English and Informatics was opened. In the 2021-2022 academic year, students enrolled for the first time on the basis of secondary general education (4 years), on the basis of higher education (2 years).The contingent consisted of 80 students, 56 of them enrolled in the Kazakh department. The contingent on the basis of higher education (2 years) was 9 students. Educational grant for 6 students of the Kazakh department, for 15 students in the Russian department. Currently, 80 students are studying under EP 6B01707 – English and Informatics, 21 of them under a state educational grant

In the 2022-2023 academic year, 127 students were enrolled, 7 of them have an educational grant, 120 students study on a contractual basis; 40 students study on the basis of SVE (secondary vocational education) (3 years of study), 1 of them has a grant “Kazak Khalkyna Kory”, and 39 students study on a contractual basis.  Thus, in the 2022-2023 academic year, there is an increase in the contingent of students in EP 6B01707 – English and Informatics – the total contingent is 207 students.

According to EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation, 446 students are studying, 10 of them under a state educational grant. On the basis of the contract – 346 students. In the 2022-2023 academic year, 162 students enrolled, which shows an increase in the number of students in EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation.

According to EP 6B02303 – Foreign Philology, 63 students study on a contractual basis.

The number of teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation for the 2022-2023 academic year is 22 teachers, including 6 associate professors, 11 senior lecturers, 10 masters, 3 lecturers. The scientific potential of the department is 33.3%: 4 candidates of Philological sciences, 3 PhD, 2 associate professors. In addition, the number of additional freelance teachers is 4 doctoral students, 1 research lecturer, 1 freelance foreign scientist Ugur Ada (Turkey, Tokat University), 1 practical lecturer, 4 part-time freelance lecturers. An increase in the degree of settlement is expected at the expense of teachers who have completed doctoral studies (Burankulova E.T.) and are currently completing their studies in doctoral studies (Tukhtarova A.S., Kushchanova A.N., Zhetesova Zh.A.).The average age of the teaching staff is 46.9.

From the moment of its creation to the present time, the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation has constantly confirmed the desire and ability to improve scientific and methodological training, to integrate into the world educational space in order to ensure the quality of education, which is the most important factor in the competitiveness of the university and its graduates.

Educational programs annually participate in the National Rating of the EP, conducted by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (NAAR), the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”.

In November 2017, the Independent Agency of Accreditation and Rating of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted a specialized accreditation on EP6B02303 – Foreign Philology.  According to EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation, specialized accreditation was carried out in October 2017. By the decision of the NAAR Accreditation Council dated November 20, 2017, EP6B02303 – Foreign Philology and EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation are accredited for a period of 5 years. Registration number no. AB1390.

In the ranking of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAAR RK) in 2019, EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation – 5th place, EP 6B02303 – Foreign Philology – 4th place, in 2020, EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation – 5th place, EP6B02303 – Foreign Philology – 8th place, and in 2021, EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation – 10th place, EP6B02303 – Foreign philology – 6th place.

In the 2019 ranking of educational programs of universities conducted jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken” EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation – 5th place, EP6B02303 – Foreign Philology – 4th place, in the 2020 ranking EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation – 5th place, EP6B02303 – Foreign Philology – 4th place, in the rating of 2021, EP 6B02302 – Interpreting and Translation – 5th place, EP6B02303 – Foreign Philology – 4th place.
